This is the context in which we have created
GAINDEGIA. Bringing
together such different agents, in terms of nature and origin, required
a great effort. Professionals, business people, trade unionists,
members of the university community, journalists and social agents from
other sectors have come together in an exciting project we have built
together. We wish to turn what in principle may seem a hindrance into
an advantage. Working together will be an advantage that will in turn
bring about further gains.
Our mission can be summarised into a few
words:
bearing our social and economic reality in mind as a starting
point, to revive and brighten the broad Basque social and economic
sphere, assessing the main opportunities for development and aiding new
moves forward. This is the reason why the main aims of
GAINDEGIA were
set out in order to structure and develop the Basque Country.
We can
sort these aims into three fields:
- Assessment of the situation.
Institutions and public bodies and administrations, trade unions,
business organisations, social organisations, universities and research
centres have been studying the social and economic sphere for a long
time; however, they have done so mostly from a limited territorial
point of view. There are many documents and studies available; all of
them are very interesting, but we lack a comprehensive and integrated
outlook. We wish to work on an integrated and global perspective.
Continuous analysis and diagnosis is essential. Nevertheless, at this
point in time we believe we must prioritise the sum of the existing
work in order to achieve that integrated and comprehensive outlook, as
this is more efficient. Therefore, our main effort is towards
COMPILATION. This is where GAINDEGIA can make its contribution.
- Creating links and developing networks
. We shall encourage relations among the social and economic agents in
the Basque Country, foster knowledge of each other, aid the transfer of
technology and knowledge. We intend to listen to the agents in each
field and cooperate to structure them, whether they are business
networks, labour associations, trade unions, professionals or
journalists. We will study both intra-territorial and inter-territorial
imbalances so as to find out how to overcome them.
- Spreading information and promoting debate.
We shall delve into the issues related to the structuring and
development of the Basque Country in order to project the current image
of the Basque Country. We aim to prove that it is possible to create
joint projects without having to relinquish competitiveness.
